Make a Collage of your Album Covers - How To by eokuwwy
Ever since I discovered the AntSpotlight screensaver, I’ve thought that it would be really cool to have the ant crawl over a collage of all my music album covers. It would be painful and arduous to create a collage from scratch using Gimp or other image editing software. Fortunately there is a tool that comes with ImageMagick called Montage that makes this really easy to do from the command line. It has a ton of options, but I just used the default.
Note:In almost all of the subdirectories that I have under ~/Music, there is a folder.jpg or .folder.jpg file, which is the album cover art. These have been either downloaded automatically by my media player or provided directly by an online store, such as amazonmp3.
Anyway, here’s what I did:
$: cd ~/Music $: mkdir temp $: loopindex=0; for f in $(find . -name "*older.jpg");do loopindex=$((loopindex+1)); cp $f temp/$loopindex.jpg;done $: cd temp $: montage *.jpg collage.jpg
Open up collage.jpg and you’ll have a (possibly huge) image containing all your album covers!
It actually works really well with the AntSpotlight too, with one catch. I have a few album covers that are NSFW! I’ll have to take care of that now.
And my fonts are all better now, thanks for asking! blog comments powered by Disqus
